Komarna Activities when you are tired of relaxing and swimming
50 meter from apartments
Sightseeing - Dubrovnik, Mostar, Ston, Mljet and nature
But why do anything? None of the locals do anything remotely physical during the daytime heat. When the sun settles boys of all ages (and a few girls as well) head for the football pitch.
You may rent mountain bikes at Villa Bili for 3 Euro per day (£ 2).
This is the place for hiking holiday. You are likely to see tortoises, snakes, lizards and small mammals on the tracks and in the bushes when you venture off the main roads. There are also insects - and lots of them. Insect repellent is advised after sunset. The surrounding mountains are full of small roads and footpaths for men and beast. All of them are open to the public and deserted houses and small villages are everywhere in the hills. The settlements often go back hundreds of years and have all been deserted long before the civil war.
Strolling up and down the streets of Komarna or sitting on the porch watching everyone else strolling up and down the
street is another favoured holiday activity.
Villa Komarna (a part of Villa Bili) has a swimming pool and a fitness centre. These may be used for a fee of about 10 Euro per day and a special price for children.
Water is really the name of the game in Dalmatia. The sea is clean and attractive anywhere you choose to jump in. The two most obvious options are the harbour 40 meters beneath Apartment Tedo or the beach a couple of hundred meters down the road.
Most of our guests uses the harbour when they rushes down to cool off.
The water is so deep that you can jump straight in and there is also shallow
water where it is safe for the children to swim. There is a shower so you
can wash the salt water off when you get out of the sea.
The pebble beach may get crowded in the weekend. Crowded is by Croatian standards. It is nothing like holiday resorts in southern Spain.
Snorkelling is fantastic. It is nothing like the Red Sea but it does not come much better in Europe. Spear fishing is also popular and you might see people with spear guns. Do however keep in mind that these people are quite far out to sea when they hunt and that they (supposedly) know what they are doing. Stick to looking at the fish unless you have done this before.
If you do not bring your own snorkelling gear you may buy mask and snorkel
for around four Euro. Plastic flippers will set you back around 15 Euro.
The items are sold in Neum but for better quality you should go to Metkovic.
One place to buy them is the shopping mall on Don Radovan Jerkovica (link to places to shop). Another possibility is the sports shop by the bus station in Metkovic.
It is behind the Citroen auto dealer on the main road going through town.
If you go to Klek or Neum, you may rent "water bikes" and pedal yourself around the bay. These cost a couple of Euro.
You could rent a speedboat at Villa Bili if you have cash to burn and if you have the proper licence to handle it. If you do rent a boat, you can go looking for the submarine bases along the mainland coast toward Ploce. There is four of them and they are blown into the mountains. The massive holes are still there but the U-boats are gone. This means that they are no longer secret. Even so they are very hard to spot unless you actively look toward land.
