The motorway from Zagreb is now open all the way to Makarska 70 km north of Komarna.
Komarna is off the main North-South highway (E65) that runs along the coast. It is about 70 km. North of Dubrovnik and 120 km. South of Split. Look out for the "km stones". The road to Komarna is between the km 733 and km 734 stones.
Michelin Route Planner - Warning: New motorways may not be included.
The Map24 Route calculates a sensible route.
Some route planner recommends to go through Banja Luka. This is not advisable. It may be 100 km shorter, but the road is not good.
Ferry connections to Croatian and inside Croatia with Jadrolinija Ferries

SNAV ferry's operate from Pescara in Italy, Ancona and Civitanova to a number of ports in Croatia.
We monitor cheap flights into Split and Dubrovnik on the Komarna Holiday Blog and please leave your comments if you know of airlines that operate at a good price.
There are four options if you want to fly in to Croatia.
Dubrovnik Airport is the most convenient. There are plenty of flights coming in, there are good bus connections to Dubrovnik bus station and from there to Komarna and it is affordable to go by taxi or we can arrange to pick you up.
There is still very good prices with Thomsonfly from Manchester and Luton if you book early
Flights to Dubrovnik from Manchester and London Gatwick
The second option is Split Airport which is also very well connected to the outside world. There are frequent bus connections that go South (busses running between Dubrovnik and Split pass by Komarna).
Sterling Airlines flies low-cost to Split from Copenhagen every Tuesday and Friday
Flights from Londan Gatwick to Split
The third option is Mostar in Herzegovina. Mostar Airport is closer to Komarna than the other two
but there are not many flights that are coming in to this airport. Should
you however land at Mostar a taxi to Komarna is the easiest. Otherwise
check out Sarajevo below. All busses from there pass through Mostar.
At the moment there seems to be good prices for tickets to Sarajevo airport. Distance to Komarna is about 200 km.
Busses towards Komarna depart infrequently - Lots of them during the first part of the day and very few from late afternoon and on. This is when the planes arrive. Spending a couple of hours in Sarajevo should not make you miserable though. The old town is completely rebuilt (with the occasional bullet hole here and there) and is definitely worth seeing - even if this means catching a later bus.
If you go downtown, you can store your luggage at the bus station in the same room where you buy your tickets. When you walk out of the bus station turn left and head down to the railway station 150-200 meters down the road. From there you can catch a tram into town. It is a ride of about 10 minutes.
You can catch a bus towards either Split or Dubrovnik. The busses for Dubrovnik go right past Komarna. Be sure that the driver knows where Komarna is. If he does not know it is best to get off in Metkovic and catch a bus or a taxi for the last part of the journey. If you are on a bus for Split, get off in Metkovic and take a taxi or another bus from there. Any bus for Dubrovnik should do it.
Book your flights online with SEAT24 - they seem to be a bit cheaper than other agents.

My preferred Car rental is Economy Car Rentals - they have by far the best prices.
It is also possible to rent a Fiat Punto from Villa Bili in Komarna. The rental price for one week is 280 Euro and it includes pick-up in Dubrovnik airport and transport back again. For single days the rental price is 50 Euro. It is advisable to book the car well in advance.
Intercity busses run almost every hour from the central bus terminals in Split and Dubrovnik.
If you arrive by train you are most likely to arrive at Split Station about 120 km. North of Komarna. Catch a bus heading for Dubrovnik from the bus station by the harbour (Obala Bratstva i Jedinstva 12, Telephone: (+385) 338 483, (+385) 338 486).

There is also a train connection to Ploce, 20 km from Komarna. The train comes from Sarajevo where there are connections to Budapest. There are good bus connections from Ploce towards Komarna (Dubrovnik).

The passport is important because Bosnia-Herzegovina is just eight kilometres
down the road and you will have to pass the border on your way to Dubrovnik.
Herzegovina borders are everywhere when you drive around. You can look
at a map and think that you might avoid crossing the border. Do not rely
on it. You might have to backtrack if you did not bring the passport.
Taxi and Transportation Service Dubrovnik is a company in Dubrovnik that can assist with all sorts of transportation needs. We have a special price for transport to and from Dubrovnik - Enquire at info@taxiservicedubrovnik.com and refer to Jan in Komarna.
Neum: (+387) (0) 9884 6978. There are two taxi in Neum with very little
to do. If they can understand you, they will come. Try to say "Komarna"
and maybe "Apartmani Bili" (best known apartments). That ought
to do the job.
Metkovic: (+385) 098 93 76 477. Use it if you are going to Metkovic (they
will be unhappy if they drive all the way out here just to take you to
Klek).
Watch out. You have to flag down the busses. Wave your hand. Standing there might not be enough. When you come up the road from Komarna the bus stop towards Metkovic and Split is on your right hand side a hundred meters down the coastal road. The Bus towards Dubrovnik stops at the bus stop to your left.
